Indies filling the gap left by collapsing chains, Bira CEO tells Sunday Times

The future is bright for independent retailers, according to a report in the Sunday Times.

Independent retailers are filling the gaps left behind by crumbling chains such as Oasis, Cath Kidston and Warehouse, the newpaper says.

The findings are backed up by information supplied by the Local Data Company (LDC) which has noted that empty units are being filled by barbershops, nail salons and boxing and yoga gyms.

Andrew Goodacre, Bira CEO, told the paper: "For some time now, we have seen more retail chains close stores as their business model fails or they move online, leaving independents to fill the gap."
