Tool Sharpening Scam Returns, Dealers be Aware
The tool sharpening thugs seem to be back in action, this time in the Plymouth area. As we’ve previously done, members are advised not to engage with this gang and to report any approaches to their local police. Sadly, and despite the number of reported incidents it seems very difficult to get the police involved despite threats of violence to business owners and their staff.
BAGMA and others have previously reported a particularly nasty scam about a tool sharpening service and threats of violence if the fee charged is not paid, even when it has not been agreed.
As we’ve previously stated, please make your staff aware that this situation is very much ongoing. Our advice to businesses who may be visited by unknown persons offering such services is to not sign any paperwork, definitely not to hand any of their tools over and to call the police on 101 straight away.
