Worknest our Legal and HR partner service would like to draw your attention to important changes in fire safety legislation that effect the responsibilities of the ‘Responsible Person’. These changes came into effect on 1st October and affect the duties of the Responsible Person in Residential and Non-Residential premises.
Worknest have put together some guidance that explains the changes that are coming into effect below.
To help you decide which guidance document is applicable to your premises you should consider the following:
Non-Residential premises are premises that have no sleeping risk, such as offices, shops, factories, warehouses, schools, places of assembly, places of worship, waste sites, sports grounds, etc,. However this does include sleeping risk premises where staff are on site 24/7 to assist with an evacuation and so it also includes hotels, care homes, nursing homes, supported living with 24/7 carers. Click here to read the guidance.
Residential premises include premises were there are sleeping risks and include flats, HMO’s, sheltered accommodation with no live in warden, residential student accommodation, etc. Click here to read the guidance.
If your premises is multi occupation with different uses i.e., non-residential and residential then the residential premises guidance applies.
Finally we also include a Fire Safety Compliance Matrix to help you comply with these new responsibilities. This can found here and applies to both Residential and Non-Residential premises.
